Hear the stories and inspiration from award-winning chef, Justin Sutherland and Adam Turman, iconic Minnesota visual artist as Jerrod Sumner navigates a candid conversation as they share what defines their process, how they turn it on and off and what collaboration and the Twin Cities means to them.
Jerrod is a brand storyteller and stylist. Known as “the maker whisperer” His work with makers, artists and entrepreneurs has led him to work with retail partners and editorial print. With the maker, he listens and “gives permission” to dream and do bigger. He is sought after for his wit and wisdom to tell the maker story. Jerrod’s dedication to telling the story of modern makers has found his clients on the pages of O Magazine, Martha Stewart and more. Professionally, he is the founder of Brandtabulous, Creative Director of Rose & Loon and Aesthetic Editor of Minnesota Monthly.
Hailing from St. Paul, MN, Justin Sutherland spent his childhood in the kitchen learning from his mother and grandmother. Growing up, his favorite TV show was “Yan Can Cook” and on his fifth birthday he asked for an Easy Bake Oven…so it is fair to say, he has been at it for awhile.
After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta, he moved back home to hone his skills in some of Minneapolis’ top restaurants including Meritage and Brasserie Zentral. Sutherland is currently the Owner and Executive Chef of the newly re-located Handsome Hog, culinary director at Potluck and joining forces to revitalize the Gnome Craft Pub – to just name a few of his latest local culinary endeavors.
He competed and won on Food Network’s coveted “Iron Chef” in 2018 and later becoming a fan favorite on Season 16 of Bravo’s hugely popular “Top Chef.” Justin is fearless in his craft, is dedicated to discipline and attention to detail, helping diversify the restaurant industry and never settles for anything but the best.
When you think of Twin Cities art, you think of Adam Turman. His bold illustrations riff Minnesota culture with stylized takes on everything from the Stone Arch bridge to Babe the Blue Ox. Notably, his work celebrates a distinctively Twin Cities love of the great outdoors.
Adam’s murals can be found all over Minnesota and his prints in private collections worldwide. He works with major Minnesota brands, local boutiques and private collectors alike to make art a part of Minnesotan’s every day.
Approaching projects from a graphic design perspective, Adam connects with art lovers through his collection of colorful screen prints, and creates commissioned pieces in the form of logos, illustrations, murals and paintings. Clients use his work to advertise events, connect with local audiences and celebrate their organizations. He has worked with companies like Target, SPAM, Indian Motorcycles and the Children’s Hospitals of Minnesota.
