Heather is the definition of “make-it-happen”. She is such a driving force here at LAB and in the community – and in general! She is strategic, witty, smart, and always full of ideas – our trend spotter. She lights up and you can actually see when her wheels are turning. Her energy is infectious and she thrives on bringing things to life and people together just as she has done with The Collective, LAB Talks and LAB’s email content.
Without further ado, let’s get to know Heather!
Name: Heather Dempsey
Title: Curator of Brand Experiences + Idea Generator
Astrological Sign: Sagittarius
Enneagram: 7 – Enthusiast; 3 – Achiever
1. What does an average day look like for you?
My typical day starts with my favorite pup/alarm clock, Joe Louis in my face as soon as the sun is shining . There is never much sleeping in. I genuinely go to bed thinking about my morning coffee so that is ALWAYS the first priority. My coffee is dreamy – a modified bulletproof coffee that involves way too many ingredients in the best way – coffee, coconut oil, butter, Vital Proteins Collagen Powder, stevia and heavy whipping cream in my blender. It is the-off-the charts so good to me, and it is the most disciplined I have ever been about anything. I also like to squeeze in a workout a few days a week before I dig into my emails and to-dos from my home office.
I am an organized creative so I can’t help but spend my days project planning, researching, learning and getting out to discover what is happening in our community and all around us first-hand. I love information and inspiration. I love sharing what I discover. I am constantly filling notebooks with ideas, brands, local businesses and people that I would love to bring together by way of speaker panel, pop-up market, workshop or activation. As a contractor, I am constantly evolving and refreshing my longtime website/blog, Inspired by Heather. It is a constant work-in-progress. People’s energy and passion are the best fuel for inspiration and even MORE ideas. There is nothing like connecting and collaborating – and then to help make those ideas come to life! Ahhh…pure joy.
2. What is something that might surprise people about you?
People are often surprised that I grew up in a small Midwestern town on a hobby farm and showed horses as well as raised rabbits for the better part of my youth. I was the epitome of a Horse Girl. While I haven’t been able to ride on a regular-basis over the last few years, the smell of a horse barn is heaven to me. However, when asking my friends, they all said my latest obsession with bushcraft skills, making fire and the show ALONE is always surprising.
3. The LAB team is currently working remotely. What does your WFH station look like?
Working remotely wasn’t that much of an adjustment because I have always had a home office until I had to share it with my husband during the pandemic. Because I love him dearly (and he has a loud Zoom voice), I suggested he take it over for what I thought would only be a few weeks. (Insert crying face – especially when he brought in a stand-up desktop…gasp!) While I moved from room to room for months, I have recently been able to swoop back in and re-establish myself in my happy place sans stand-up desktop. Candles are always burning, and our latest LAB playlist is on repeat because it is my favorite. My co-workers are always on FaceTime while my dogs are by my side and new ideas are constantly generating. This is where it all happens for me on the daily.
4. What is your favorite form of self-care?
In addition to my Orangetheory and Club Pilates memberships, my monthly facial membership at Face Foundrie is one of the best things I do for myself. It has been such a worthy investment. I absolutely LOVE Alissa at the Edina location – she’s magic. She keeps my skin glowing, and the scalp massage is everything.
5. What are a few of your favorite local businesses to follow on social media?
6. Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?
I love dragging my friends and family out to new places to eat + drink around the Twin Cities. I am lucky to have such amazing, supportive and just down right, fun (and very funny) friends who are game for anything. I love footwear and can justify any trip to the Sven Clog Outlet, getting a new pair of Redwing shoes or sneakers. Live music makes me happy. Have I told you I love Darius Rucker yet? LOL. My State Fair game is strong, and you will always find me with a Lift Bridge Mini Donut Beer in hand when I’m there. I love everything sports – especially the Green Bay Packers. I also become very much consumed with the Olympics when they are happening. Tokyo 2021!
I love to travel. Especially to places I have never been and that might involve an adventure like shark diving, hiking to a summit or just getting a coveted reservation at a hotspot. And, I am forever taking pics with my phone but rarely share in real-time. I prefer my signature photo dump or posting on behalf of Joe Louis.
