A Showstopping Saturday: Inside House of KLynn’s Wedding Experience Couture Show

It’s likely that you’ve already seen pieces made by Grand Couturier Kathyrn Rogers, who is known for making iconic couture clothing and accessories for critically-acclaimed feature films such as Hidden Figures, Passengers, and Bessie, and tailored for designer Zac Posen. Since the early 2000s, Rogers has consistently done fashion shows along the Vegas strip at MGM, Treasure Island, Caesars Place, Mandalay Bay, and Disney.
While she’s traveled the world and designed alongside some of the entertainment industry’s biggest icons, her story started in Minneapolis, admiring a skirt at Dayton’s that was out of her price range. As she shared on Twin Cities Live this March, “It was a beautiful white wool skirt and I thought to myself, I could make this. So I did, and when I returned to the store later wearing the skirt, the saleswoman thought I had bought it.”
She grew up in a household of 13 children, and her parents made all of their clothes. Learning resourcefulness and craft from her family, she continued making her own perfectly-tailored clothing and ventured into entertainment. Quickly, her work was noticed by producers and she established herself as one of the top designers and tailors in the industry.
No matter what she’s creating, Rogers shares that making made-to-order garments, specifically designed for each client is, “...What I like about what I do,” says Rogers. “I want the woman to walk away, looking good at whatever shape or size she is.”

We had the opportunity to chat with Grand Couturier Kathyrn Rogers before the big show, and learn more about why this collection of wedding attire is such an important next collection for the brand. House of KLynn promotes quality and deliberate fashion, and we are so lucky to have such a creative mastermind in our local community.
In your career before starting House of KLynn, you established yourself as one of the top designers and tailors in the entertainment industry. What did you do to make your work stand out?
I relied on internal research by understanding that my ideas will help others to unleash their creative energy to create a more realistic view. The most challenging part of this job is allowing my creative skills to heard and seen within an industry of greatness. But in a way, it is also the most rewarding. I get to work with other great designers with the mindset to learn, understanding by creating newness.
All of your pieces are made to order specifically for your client, which is a unique element of HOK. Did your background in costumes and tailoring influence this decision?
Yes, by staying authentic knowing and remembering that there’s no limits within fashion. Creative honesty is so important to my brand - being true to myself and the customer by creating a garment that will give a clear vision of their personality and smile.
You emphasize "consciously and intentionally being the change needed toward a more responsible fashion" in your brand. How can someone work toward being more intentional in building a wardrobe or selecting a piece of clothing?
I would recommend having an idea of your interests or goal when looking for a piece. At HOK, we consider everything, including style, fabrics and sustainability. HOK Made To Order is intentional whether we’re building a single garment or a full collection.
Your upcoming fashion show will showcase looks for every guest or member of a wedding party, no matter their age, size, or style. Can you share more about why it was important to you to create pieces beyond bridal gowns?
My focus was more about the experience in creating a wedding because, it involves a village of loving individuals coming together to show and experience love, joy and laughter to partake in a journey of long life together. It’s the experience of a lifetime filled with unforgettable memories of love and happiness, and I believe this show will create those same feelings.
