Snowplow Names That Are Good As Hell

FEBRUARY 22, 2023

“GOOD AS HELL” was our reaction when we heard that “Blizzo” was a top contender for MnDOT’s Name a Snowplow Contest…so, we couldn’t help ourselves with this illustration.

We might be bracing for a record-breaking blizzard, but that won’t stop us from channeling Lizzo’s positive energy and enjoying the ride!   Even better, the name was born at Osseo Middle School by a class of creative 6th graders.

Lizzo publicly thanked them saying:

"Of all the awards I have received, this is by far the highest honor," she said. "To know that there is a snowplow with the name 'Blizzo' that is clearing the streets of the Twin Cities right now makes my heart melt - or freeze." - Lizzo

For the past few years the Minnesota Department of Transportation has set up a contest to ‘Name a Snowplow’ each winter. This year, MnDOT received more than 10,000 name ideas, with 60 moving on to the voting. More than 64,000 people voted! Below is the list of the winning snowplow names from this year and years past - the names will be added to one plow in the noted district. We love a good pun, so these names are just too good!
